We start the day at Pickering's heritage station to board our train for a nostalgic journey on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, travelling through stunning scenery to Whitby. This charming coastal town features quirky streets and a picturesque harbour. It is most widely known for its atmospheric ruined abbey perched on the cliffs above the town which provided inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula. Free time in Whitby before returning to the hotel. Scarborough
Free time to explore Scarborough- a resort of immense style with some of the finest gardens in this country and an elegant promenade running along the top of the cliffs. Historic charm and scenic splendour surround the beautiful Yorkshire coastline and the North Yorkshire Moors National Park is just minutes away.
Helmsley Walled Garden & The World of James Herriot
Head to picture postcard town Helmsley, an attractive market town within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park with an impressive 900 year old castle (now ruins), There is an included visit to the Helmsley Walled Garden which sits beneath the ruins. Built in 1759, this historic garden is full of intimate spaces such as the White Garden and Garden of Contemplation where you can enjoy peace and tranquility. A guided tour will help you discover the garden's secrets and highlights. Continue on, descending spectacular Sutton Bank (a steep drop of 140m), to Thirsk where you will step through the famous red door of 23 Kirkgate into the World of James Herriot, the fully restored site of his original 1940s home and veterinary practice.
